Why should we study

Why should we study?

Education and study is common for most of the country in the world. When we are still child or young, we are always in school and study. When we are grew up and stepped into the workplace, study normally out of our consideration. If we are working, our commitments aren't going to go away just because we decide to study. However, the benefits of study for greater satisfaction and better pay mean that it's all worth it to take up book again and further study.

When we are sitting in a classroom studying different subjects, it can be hard to find the connection to our future dream career in it. The fact is that further study has been proven to be well worth the effort at all stages of life after we gained experiences on our workplace and have better understand the career we want to  pursue.

Good skills for life

Once we start in our further education, we can specialise in the sector/line we want – it is as much about learning how to study as it is about what we are learning. If we can research, analyse, problem-solve and communicate well, we can translate those skills in our daily life and jobs, career or interest.

More jobs, better jobs

Having tertiary qualifications at certificate level or higher will always give us a new start over the ever changing competitions, even if those qualifications aren’t directly related to the job we are going for.

Employers understand that it takes commitment and self-motivation to complete further study, and these are qualities that are difficult to show without a lot of work experience.

Skilled vs unskilled jobs

Work flexibility and satisfaction are just as important as money. We are more likely to tick those boxes if we are considered to be a skilled worker. So what's the difference between skilled work and unskilled work?

Unskilled workers definitely make the world go around just as much as skilled workers do – our country couldn't function without labourers, factory staff, service or retail assistants – but when it comes to having career choices and higher wages, skilled workers find it easier to take advantage of opportunities in job market. This is because our economy needs to have a wide range of specialist workers in order to keep lots of different industries going.

We might have heard the term ‘skills shortages’. This relates to the different skill levels required for different types of jobs and comes up when there aren’t enough workers with the right training and skills to fill those skilled jobs. Skills shortages can cause problems for the economy. If we can prove that we have the right skills and knowledge then we can take advantage of those gaps.

Becoming a skilled worker means we can take on a wider variety of tasks and responsibilities, and we are likely to enjoy greater independence if our skills and expertise are acknowledged by our industry.

Stay up to date

Employers and business leaders always talk about and emphasize the importance of continous learning. They’re not wrong. With people live and working longer in their age, and evolution of technology changing the game on a regular basis, it has never been more important to stay up to date.

Even if we have been working for most of our life, getting back to study is still something valuable. Do it for ourself – it might reboot our motivation, give us the confidence to try something new or help us to step up to the next level.

Open up new worlds

Deeply understanding aspects of the world can really change our experience of it. Learning how to think in broad horizon, and to understand how our chosen profession fits into society as a whole, can open up new and interesting worlds. The more we know the world the more we can make an impact on it.

We don’t have to have a ‘dream’

We don’t have to stick at a job we don't like just because we are still waiting to realize the dream of our surrounding people wish us to. Studying opens doors to things we might not have thought of – and gives us more flexibility to try new things and see where life takes us to.

There might be something happening right now that excites us. There are emerging technologies in IT, health and environmental areas, there could be a vibrant art scene springing up where we live, or we might be really interested in making the world more sustainable. Whatever it is, take the time to learn about it because education can bring us into next big thing. Dream or no dream, that’s the reality.

2015 Rankings of Online Colleges & Universities

Although online education is growing, some institutions facilitate online education better than others. Online higher education is booming with explosive growth. According to the Babson Survey Research Group , 33% (or 7.1 million) of the 21.3 million students enrolled in higher education courses are enrolled in at least one online course. Compare that to 2002 when just 11% (or 1.6 million) of the 14.6 million students enrolled in higher education courses were enrolled in at least one online course. Though the total enrollment of college students has grown over the past 12 years, the rate of growth of online higher education is much higher than that of traditional higher education.

Studies suggest that students choose online education because of the increased ability to balance school with other responsibilities, the flexibility of learning from anywhere at any hour, a quicker completion time, access to more programs, and potentially a lower costs. As the demand for online education has grown so has the technology to personalize the experience. Needless to say, online education is a viable option for all those considering higher education.

The 25 Public Colleges Where Students Graduate The Fastest

The schools that will help you avoid the wasted time and added expense of spending a fifth year (or more) in the classroom.

One casualty of the ongoing budget problems and overcrowding at public colleges is speed. The average time public college students take to earn what used to be called a “four-year degree” is currently about 4.6 years.

In fact, only one third of public college students earn their bachelor’s degree in four years, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

And that means the average in-state public college student is paying for an additional semester of tuition, room, board, and books—which is currently running about $12,000, according to College Board data.

Many private college students need more than four years to graduate as well, but on average, fully 53% of private college students earn their bachelors’ degree on time, 20 percentage points higher than the public college rate. (For the private colleges that graduate students the fastest, see our list of the top 50.)

One major cause of students’ slower progress at public colleges is underfunding. At some colleges, such as some low-cost California State University campuses, students complain they can’t get into the majors or classes they need to complete their degrees. At several CSU campuses, such as San Jose State University, students have almost no chance to finish on time.

But students also slow themselves down, research shows. Generally, schools that accept students with less-than-perfect high school records—such as open access public colleges—tend to have low four-year graduation rates. Many struggling students have to take remedial classes before they can handle college-level work, which adds a semester or two to their degree.

And students who change majors late in their college career may have to take additional requirements, which can force them to spend an extra semester or two at school. (You can read more about the simple strategies to help you graduate on time here.

These 25 public colleges have the best records of graduating students on time. They are ranked by four-year graduation rates in the table below, which also lists Money’s best college values ranking and our estimate of the average cost of a degree for an in-state student, after college scholarships and grants are subtracted.
